King: Shah Rukh Khan's Release Date Locked, Full Cast & Teaser Update

King: Shah Rukh Khan's Release Date Locked, Full Cast & Teaser Update

King, Shah Rukh Khan's most awaited film in three years, has its date locked: December 24, 2026. The Christmas Eve release was confirmed by SRK himself during a fan interaction in September, putting an end to months of delay rumours — and with the teaser reportedly dropping on his birthday, November 2, the countdown has officially begun.

Here's everything confirmed so far: the release date, the full cast, what the story is about, and where the production stands.

Release Date: December 24, 2026 — No Delay

For weeks, trade chatter suggested King might slip out of its Christmas window. SRK settled it directly. During an "Ask Me Anything" session on X in September 2026, he told fans the film was on track: "Ab picture hi dekho na! Tarsa nahi raha, acchi wali bana raha hoon… Sab ayega… 24th Dec se pehle."

The date is strategic. Christmas has been SRK's territory before — Dunki released in the same window in 2023 — and a December 24 opening gives King an extended holiday weekend across India and overseas markets.

The Teaser Is Coming on SRK's Birthday

According to Bollywood Hungama, director Siddharth Anand and the producers are planning to unveil the film's teaser on November 2, 2026 — Shah Rukh's birthday. Multiple trade sources have corroborated the plan, calling it a "KING-sized blast" for fans.

There's more. A Variety report notes that a specially shot promotional campaign for King will play in cinemas alongside Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: Part 1 during its theatrical run — putting the teaser in front of one of the biggest opening-weekend audiences of the year.

The Cast: Suhana's Theatrical Debut and an Ensemble of Heavyweights

The casting is the film's biggest talking point. Shah Rukh Khan plays Daya Shah, described in reports as a feared figure in the criminal underworld — a sleek, highly skilled assassin. Opposite him, his daughter Suhana Khan makes her theatrical acting debut, playing the young woman Daya takes under his wing. (Suhana previously debuted on screen in Netflix's The Archies in 2023; King is her first big-screen outing.)

Abhishek Bachchan plays the antagonist — described as a lean, calculating villain — setting up a heavyweight clash with SRK. Deepika Padukone reunites with Shah Rukh after Pathaan and Jawan; reports describe her role as Suhana's mother and SRK's former lover, a short but emotionally pivotal part.

The bench is deep: Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Rani Mukerji, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Saurabh Shukla, Raghav Juyal, Abhay Verma (reportedly Suhana's love interest), Akshay Oberoi and Karanvir Malhotra. Trade reports have also mentioned a much-hyped special appearance by Salman Khan — though the makers have not confirmed it, so treat that one as a rumour for now.

What Is King About?

The makers have kept the plot tightly guarded, but the shape of the story is clear from consistent reporting: a mentor-protégé action thriller. After tragedy strikes her family, a young woman (Suhana) is taken under the wing of a haunted professional assassin (SRK), who trains her to survive — and to take revenge — in a brutal underworld.

Several reports note the film is loosely inspired by Luc Besson's French classic Léon: The Professional (1994), reimagined with Indian emotional stakes. Director Siddharth Anand has promised "a new Shah Rukh Khan experience" — a grittier, more menacing avatar than the romantic hero audiences grew up with. The title reveal teaser, released on SRK's birthday in 2025, showed him with a silver-blond look and the tagline "Sau deshon mein badnaam, duniya ne diya sirf ek hi naam" — infamous in a hundred countries, the world gave him only one name.

Production Status: Final Schedule Underway

Principal photography began in May 2025 and has spanned Mumbai, Warsaw, Gdańsk and Cape Town. The shoot hit speed bumps — SRK revealed he sustained multiple injuries during filming, forcing the schedule to stop and restart several times. "Had a few injuries while shooting so had to start stop many times but now all broken is fixed… and nearly all done," he told fans.

As of mid-October 2026, the film is in its final shooting schedule in Mumbai, with action sequences and a song featuring Suhana Khan being filmed at studios in Goregaon and Andheri East. The team is simultaneously racing through visual effects to make the Christmas deadline.

The Scale: ₹350 Crore and a Reunion That Matters

Trade reports put the budget at around ₹350 crore, making King one of the most expensive Hindi films ever mounted. The music pairs Sachin–Jigar on songs with Anirudh Ravichander on the background score — a combination designed for both mass appeal and scale.

Behind the camera, it's a reunion with real box-office weight. King is SRK's second film with Siddharth Anand after Pathaan (2023), the film that ended his four-year acting hiatus and became one of the biggest Hindi hits of all time. The film is produced by Gauri Khan, Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand under Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.

Why December 24 Is the Real Test

Here's what makes this release genuinely fascinating. Pathaan proved SRK could own the action genre at 57. Jawan proved he could do it twice in a year. But King asks something harder: it pairs the biggest star in Hindi cinema with his daughter's big-screen debut, in a dark mentor-protégé story, against a Christmas corridor where expectations will be stratospheric.

If the November 2 teaser lands the way the makers hope, the seven weeks between the teaser and release will be the loudest stretch of Bollywood's year. The king, as the poster says, is coming — and this time he's bringing his daughter with him.
