International Emmy Awards 2026: Full Nominees List, Predictions & How to Watch

The International Emmy Awards 2026 are set, and this year's race might be the most wide open in recent memory. On September 23, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences unveiled 64 nominees across 16 categories from 22 countries — everything from a Netflix stand-up special out of India to a Turkish telenovela double-threat to Louis Theroux's latest documentary. The winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York City on Monday, November 23, 2026.

Here is the full picture: who made the list, which races actually matter, and how you can follow the results on the night.

When and Where the 2026 International Emmys Happen

The nominees gather in New York for the International Emmy World Television Festival from November 20 to 22, three days of panels, presentations and industry events. The gala itself follows on Monday, November 23, where trophies are handed out in all 16 categories. Winners are chosen by juries of television professionals drawn from outside each nominee's home country — a system designed to strip out home-turf advantage, and one reason an International Emmy carries real weight with the global industry.

The United Kingdom led the nominations for the seventh consecutive year, with Brazil and Spain close behind — a pecking order that has barely shifted in half a decade.

Best Actor: Darín vs. Cámara Is the Heavyweight Fight

The most star-powered race of the night is Best Performance by an Actor. Argentina's Ricardo Darín — arguably the most decorated film actor in Latin America — is nominated for Netflix's sci-fi epic The Eternaut, the Buenos Aires-set adaptation that became one of the year's biggest non-English hits. Against him: Spain's Javier Cámara in Yakarta (Jakarta), South Africa's Ian Roberts in A Kind of Madness, and Britain's Bobby Schofield in Unforgivable.

Darín walks in as the name to beat — his global profile dwarfs the field — but International Emmy juries have a habit of rewarding the performance over the reputation. Cámara's work in Yakarta has been described as career-best by Spanish critics, which makes this the night's genuine toss-up.

Best Actress: Four Continents, No Clear Favorite

The actress race is even harder to call. Belgium's Mona Mina Leon (Holy Sh!t), Mexico's Bárbara Mori (Lucca's World), South Korea's Park Ji-hyun (You and Everything Else) and Britain's Sheridan Smith (I Fought the Law) represent four entirely different television traditions. Mori's Lucca's World arrived with major Netflix muscle behind it, while Park Ji-hyun benefits from the Korean drama wave that keeps converting Western juries. This is the category where a surprise would surprise no one.

Comedy: Vir Das Chases a Second Trophy

India has two nominations this year, and the louder one belongs to Vir Das. His Netflix special Vir Das: Fool Volume — built around the experience of losing his voice and finding it again — is his third International Emmy nomination. He was first shortlisted in 2021 for For India, then won the Comedy award in 2023 for Landing. That makes him the most-nominated Indian performer in the award's history, and a win here would make him a two-time champion.

The competition is no joke: Argentina's División Palermo – Season 2 (Community Squad), Britain's Man vs Baby and Spain's Old Dog, New Tricks, all Netflix titles. Four nominees, one streamer, one very awkward table at the gala. Das's history with these juries gives him the edge — but División Palermo has the kind of word-of-mouth that upsets favorites.

Drama Series: Britain's to Lose?

The Drama Series category pits the UK's A Thousand Blows (Disney+) — the Victorian bare-knuckle boxing epic — against France's Carême (Apple TV), Argentina's Menem (Amazon MGM Studios) and India's Real Kashmir Football Club (SonyLIV), starring Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in the story of building a professional football club in Kashmir.

A Thousand Blows enters as the favorite on pedigree alone, but don't sleep on Real Kashmir Football Club — sports dramas with genuine social texture have overperformed at the International Emmys before, and this one carries a story no jury has seen.

Telenovela: Türkiye Brings Two Guns to the Fight

The Telenovela category is where the night gets spicy. Türkiye's powerhouse studio Ay Yapım landed two nominations — Leyla and Uzak Şehir (Far Away) — effectively competing against itself. They're up against Brazil's Garota do Momento (Globo) and Spain's Valle Salvaje – Season 2 (Wild Valley).

Two Turkish nominees from the same studio is either a show of dominance or a vote-split waiting to happen. If Ay Yapım's support divides, Globo's Garota do Momento walks through the middle. This is the category to watch for pure drama.

The Docs and News That Actually Matter

Two nominations carry weight far beyond television. Louis Theroux: The Settlers (UK) is up for Documentary — Theroux's examination of Israeli settlements is exactly the kind of uncomfortable, high-craft filmmaking these juries reward. In Current Affairs, Al Jazeera Investigates' Hasina: 36 Days in July — the investigation into the final days of Sheikh Hasina's rule during Bangladesh's 2024 uprising, built on covert recordings — arrives already decorated with the Overseas Press Club's Peter Jennings Award.

The News category is equally heavy: Sky News' The World: 24 Hours in the Kill Zone, Al Jazeera Arabic's Missing in Gaza, Globo's Fantástico: Isolated in the Amazon and Portugal's Lembra-te de Mim (Remember Me). And in TV Movie/Mini-Series, keep an eye on the BBC's Prisoner 951 and Korea's Hyper Knife — the Korean wave shows no sign of slowing at these awards.

The Special Honorees: Bajaria and Zeiler

Two industry heavyweights receive the evening's special awards. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, takes the International Emmy Founders Award — recognition for greenlighting the global content strategy that put half this nominee list on the map. Gerhard Zeiler, president of Warner Bros. Discovery International, receives the Directorate Award. When the two most powerful executives in international television share a stage, the acceptance speeches tend to make news of their own.

How to Watch and Follow the Results

Here's the honest answer: the International Emmy Awards gala is an industry ceremony, not a televised broadcast like the US Primetime Emmys. There is no announced public livestream or TV channel carrying the November 23 gala. Winners are revealed at the ceremony in New York and reported in real time by the trade press.

Your best options on the night: follow the official iemmys.tv website and the Academy's social channels for the winners list as it's announced, and check Variety and Deadline for live coverage and analysis. The full nominee list across all 16 categories is published on iemmys.tv now.

Why This Year Feels Different

Strip away the ceremony and what's striking about the 2026 list is how little of it comes from the traditional centers of television power. A Filipino kids' drama (Love at First Spike), a Singaporean arts program (Copy + Paste + Steal), a Qatari current-affairs investigation, a Kashmiri football story — 22 countries, and the map keeps widening. The UK still leads the count, but the center of gravity is moving. On November 23, we'll find out how far it's moved.
