Thalaivar is back — and how. Jailer 2 released worldwide today, and Rajinikanth's sequel is demolishing box office records within hours of release.
The numbers are staggering: over 1.9 million tickets sold in advance, grossing ₹41.48 crore before a single show played. Worldwide pre-sales touched ₹72 crore, and by 2 PM on release day the film had already collected ₹25 crore net in India — selling over 71,000 tickets per hour.
Dhanush, Rajinikanth's former son-in-law, gave the film his loudest endorsement on X: "JAILER 2 is a MUST MUST MUST watch. BLOCKBUSTER 🔥🔥🔥 A FEAST for every Thalaivar fan."
The sequel brings back Rajinikanth as the iconic 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa reprising their roles. New additions include S.J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and Suraj Venjaramoodu — plus high-profile cameos from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff, with Hrithik Roshan rumored.
In a significant move, the Madras High Court banned unauthorized online exhibition of the film, protecting Sun Pictures' copyright as the piracy battle heats up on release day.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar with music by Anirudh Ravichander, Jailer 2 is the rare sequel Rajinikanth actually agreed to — and early reactions suggest the gamble paid off big.
This is the biggest entertainment news in Indian cinema right now, and the box office tsunami is just getting started.
